Edward Burra: 'Always join the minority'

I found Burra's artwork in a book about Britain Tate. He is a discovery to me. Burra is almost neglected these days. I love his striking urban scenes: black hipsters in Harlem, barmaids in cheap cafés, busy roads... Burra's paintings reflect mute despair and his characters though in crowds look lonely. Burra painted in watercolours. His works are curious and stir emotions. I can't but think that the artist was lonely himself, a bit harsh and a bit touchy.
