My granddad Eugene (my dad's dad). Photo assumably taken in the 1940s, before WWII started. He is in his early 20s on the photo. According to the official records he was killed on 8/8/1942, but this date is not accurate. He was only 25-26 when he passed away. He served in a tank division and was a lieutenant during WWII. His tank was fired and set on fire. My granddad was shot dead when trying to escape the fire in the battle somewhere in the western Ukraine. So I was told. My granddad has never been properly buried as per our Christian rituals. He is in the Unknown Soldier tomb. Neither me nor my dad saw him. R.I.P. Hero. 1917-1942
